Bee Dust Pencils
"Aserrín de abeja" (Bee Dust) is a collaborative project with Oaxaca's Center of Design, involving designer Jesús Nieva García and bee wax artisans José Hernández and Petra Mendoza. This project emerged from the process developed for my examination work, part of my bachelor's graduate project. It explores a sustainable material sourced from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico.
The material comprises bee wax and sawdust, a blend that alters the properties of these elements, resulting in products that are 100% sustainable, emit zero waste, and exhibit enhanced durability when utilised.
The culmination of this endeavour is the outcome of a 10-month investigation (February-November 2013), encompassing testing and production of the initial collection crafted from this innovative material. Named "Diarios de un MADERERO" (Wooden Man Diaries), it materialises into pencils.
Through this project, my aim is not to create new objects but to enhance products that can contribute to addressing global issues like environmental preservation. The waste from a single plastic pen, when multiplied by millions, can have a significant impact on the environment.
